Grant Rail

Project

New High Density Storage for both buildings at their Head Office in Doncaster.

Objective

To replace the existing low and high level side tambour storage units with a better and more flexible heavier duty storage system to release much needed floor space to enable additional members of staff to occupy the buildings.

Our Aim

Was to better utilise the wall space and demonstrate the advantages of two other storage systems than the ones our Client has been using successfully over the last couple of years or so.

The Solution

With the increasing demand by companies to retain localised document storage it was good to see that our Client was very receptive to invest in a completely different way of storing their documents. After visiting another user of these systems it was clear that the proposed units would not only free up the much needed floor space but would also increase their storage capacity. We were very careful when choosing the finish of these units as they needed to complement the furniture we supplied a few years ago.

Clients Comments

During the early part of 2006, the Facilities Department at GrantRail were given the task of integrating a subsidiary company into the head office at Doncaster and rationalising the office accommodation at Carolina Court. In addition we had to plan to include space for a further 8 staff into both buildings. We approached our furniture supplier of many years to assist in the space planning and storage requirements. To allow space for this additional staff, we had to change our document storage from 3 drawer filling cabinets to 'Double Store and Roller Store' solutions.

This gave the businesses the opportunity to rationalise, archive and dispose of their paper storage. We also had to change the method of storage, dispensing with ‘lever arch’ files and using horizontal pocket files thereby reducing the physical storage needs. This method was particularly successful in the Finance Department.

Working alongside Harlequin we were able to give the businesses options as to their needs, organise both disposal of the redundant equipment/ furniture and installation of the new storage solutions and furniture. This work was successfully carried out over two weekends starting on a Friday in March & April this year. This work could not have been carried out without the hard work and assistance from Harlequin.

Should any other business need these services I would strongly recommend the use of Harlequin to carry out the planning and works.
